Giridih, Jharkhand: An initiative led by environmentalist and agripreneur Rajeev Singh to preserve traditional Adivasi medicinal knowledge while promoting medicinal plant and forest conservation was featured in Prabhat Khabar on 9 October 2026.

The newspaper highlighted the launch of Hodopathy.org, Hodopathy.in and Hodopathy.com in Giridih, marking an effort to connect indigenous knowledge preservation with digital documentation, environmental awareness and future scientific research.

Jharkhand’s Adivasi communities possess generations of knowledge about local forests, medicinal plants and traditional healing practices. Much of this knowledge has been transmitted orally, making responsible documentation important for its preservation.

The initiative seeks to safeguard this heritage while encouraging conservation of the natural resources associated with it. Hodopathy Park in Gandey, Giridih, has also been linked with the programme to promote medicinal plant conservation and biodiversity awareness.

As reported by Prabhat Khabar, the programme follows a three-phase roadmap involving digital knowledge collection, publication of traditional healers’ experiences and medicinal plant information, and training for young people. Collaboration with research institutions for scientific studies is also proposed.

Rajeev Singh highlighted the close relationship between indigenous ecological knowledge and the conservation of forests and medicinal plants. The programme places particular importance on community participation and respect for the consent and rights of traditional knowledge holders.

The initiative aligns with broader sustainability objectives by encouraging biodiversity conservation, environmental education, protection of native plant resources & community-led knowledge preservation.

The newspaper coverage highlights how traditional ecological wisdom and contemporary conservation approaches can contribute to protecting Jharkhand’s natural heritage.
